september 16

i woke up this morning and decided to ride to central park which i could describe as being eight miles away--which would be true--or i could describe it as being over 80 blocks away--which is also true, but sounds so much more epic. the place is just as gigantic as i remembered it, and it really is quite beautiful, but i still find the idea of parks like that kind of strange. necessary, but strange. while i was there, i stopped for my first ever knish, which i believe is jew for "delicious potato thing."

after the ride back, when i learned that new york cabbies love to turn without blinkers from the middle lanes and that even traffic cops are surprised by how ridiculous the standard of driving in manhattan is, i took a shower and went back to the french restaurant i tried out a couple weeks ago for a nutella and banana crêpe. it was just as good as you imagine.

unfortunately, that's when the activities for the day ended. i spent awhile trying to figure out what i'll be doing once i leave here. i called robert to tell him that i wouldn't be able to commit for a month, starting working out the details of my visit to my uncle mike and aunt carol in new hampshire, and starting trying to find ways to road trip out west in november, or maybe january. i was going to go to a reading by jonathan safran foer at nyu tonight, and then maybe check out a free show by a rap duo called das racist at something called the santos party house, but those things were in manhattan and the insane thunderstorm that's been threatening all day just started, so i chose to stay inside.

in the next few days though, i'm going to try to check out the museums on their free (or pay what you want) days and i have a couple art exhibits and shows i'm planning on going to--all to have good stories for you.

  3. also, about your 'about me' section, you probably shouldn't tell people you don't know who are for some reason following your blog to come find you.
